About Me

Hi, yes a page about everyone's favourite dino, me! I'm Steven SDF of Blitzcoder and I'm always depicted as a dinosaur of some sort when I'm around the Internet, or even sometimes people talk about me like that in real life too.

All in a Name

Me as a dinosaur A lot of people ask me, “what does SDF stand for?” Well, nothing really, though I will except “Sexy Dino Fun.” Someone on IRC who went by the name Lokhis made it up, I haven't seen that guy in maybe more than a year, but that's what he does, he doesn't stick around long and disappears for huge amounts of time and when he comes back it's usually under a different nick according to him. The nick SDF was made up on the 12th of December, 2001 and it stuck. I made it up when I signed up to my first forum board, which was blitzcoder. Sadly it no longer exists. When I started signing up to other forums I noticed there were a lot of other SDF's on the web and Internet, so I decided that as I was the only SDF on blitzcoder, I'd have to get me a last name, I kinda liked the older style names and settled with SDF of Blitzcoder, meaning (because some people are even confused by that) SDF from Blitzcoder. Anyway, after a while this was shortened so my many forums and services I'm signed up with something like SDF_of_BC, SDF of BC, SDFOBC and so on.

There is an exception, when I signed up to Second life I made an exception, I called myself stevenSDF, this was because, I'm not always in an “SDF mood” (in other words, very happy,) and I like to just be called Steven, my real name in them instances, though I'm not really bothered. As Second Life was a more personal thing, being a second life I changed it and that has sort of stuck to, so rarely, but in some places I might be signed up as StevenSDF too.

Second Life

One of my avatars on Second Life So as we're on the topic of Second Life, if you've not seen second life before, you should try it, it's an online “game,” it's a social game where the users can build and script there own things, you can buy land and start a business, there are no objectives, you just do your own thing, basically, you have a second life, just like in real life. Also the game currency has a market, the Lindex, which allows you to convert the in-game currency (linden dollars) into real money. Currently, at the time of writing, it's about L$267 to the US$. It can be a real interesting place, but you'll probably need to patience, unless you've done bulding things in 3D before, or you can easily pick up the scripting language, LSL, soon to be replaced by mono, some sort of C# thing, I can't remember off the top of my head.

Home Sweet Home

I currently live in the North-West of England, in the UK and go to Bolton University, I'm currently studying Computing, lots of lovely programming. It's also about devloping systems within businesses too, but I just love to code so, that is the main focus I have.

Work Often Sweet Work

Work, yes I do work, during the Summer holidays and sometimes Easter I work for a company called Cardinal Health, they pack medication at the site I work at, if you're a big pharmaceutical company, please look them up! At the site I'm at we mainly pack clinical trials, that's medication that is still being tested, that is tested on humans for any animal-rights people reading. :p

I think that just about does it. I'll have to get some of my dino pics, and a screen shot from Second Life and put them on this page somewhere.
