Searching IRC
Searching on the Current Server
Searching Channels
Once you're connected to the server, switch to the status tab for it and select Edit→Properties menu. Switch to the windows tab click the Get List button to get a full list of channels currently hosted on the server.
If the server supports it then a search form will be available on the same tab as the channel list, here you can search channels by:
- Creation time
- Based on a mask?
- Topic set time
- Based on user count
- Name
Not all servers will support searching all the criteria above, in such a case the necessary parts of the form will be disabled. To search the type a channel name into the search box, if it's part of a name then surround it with '*', for example, *irc* will return any channel with the characters “irc” within their names. To start the search click the magnifier (
) button.
You can also search from command line by typing /list into any console on that server. However, the results will be sent to the server console and on busy servers may be hard to read.
I will be looking to improve this over time. If you have any feature requests, please file them in the tracker.
Searching on the Web
There are a number of search engines available which allow you to search for networks, channels and maybe users.
Clicking the world icon (
) will send the channel search to searchIRC (probably will be changeable in the future.)
