What is SDF:IRC?
SDF:IRC is a chat client created in Java it allows user to communicate using a protocol known as Internet Relay Chat, an old but simple and popular chat protocol.
SDF:IRC is being created to plug-able this means it you will be able to download and install plug-ins to alter and add functionality to the program. When first downloaded the client will be in a simple state, it will be a working client but with no fancy features. If anything new would be needed then a new plug-in would need to be downloaded or created.
Why was it created?
In all the clients I've used I've never totally liked them, so I decided to create my own. While I have a working version of it and use it public there is no released version yet, there is still work to be done on it before it gets to that point and work and university tend to slow things down a little.
What Platforms will it be available on?
So far it will be available on the following:
- Windows (32 and 64bit)
- Linux
- Mac
There may be others on request.
You might be thinking, it's Java it should run everywhere, why these few platforms? Well the answer is that the GUI library I use isn't available on all platforms and needs to be packaged separately for every platform, this is why.
