Hey all, new post just to say that I've noticed a lot of new traffic coming to this area of my site. As such I should work harder on getting it completed. There is still the lost password page to write, some scripts need to be created for purging old unused accounts, banners and so on from the database and I should make it easier to edit banners too.
On the whole editing banners thing I was thinking of having a small Java applet, which could be used to upload a background image, select fonts and colours and move the text about on the banner, then just click save when done to store it. Better than the current solution? Oh and there's still the styling to do, because I stole all that from my main site which is why the header and footer and CSS all comes from there.

Practially Done

I'm pleased to announce that the site is now usable.
Today I've completed the banner creating code so that adding stats to the banner get saved correctly before going to the edit page. I've created a preview banner which gets displayed at the top of the edit page, I've also added the URL to the image and UBB and HTML code to help in linking to your banner. I've just got the font uploading working too.
Next up I will continue to fix any bugs I notice, please tell me if you notice anything wrong and I'll fix it ASAP.
For the future, I need to make the site look better, currently it is using the styling from my main site, with a few alterations, with the site header and menu above that will likely cause a bit of confusion. I think the next thing to do would be to create a better and new template. I'm going to try asking a best friend if he wants to do this as he might be interested in that and he's got the brain for it.

Edit Page Working, Almost

Yes, tonight I've managed to get the edit page largely working!
Banners can be updated and statistics added and removed from them. One thing that isn't there yet is the preview. I shall add that in a little while in the mean time if you really want to go create a banner you can, just the preview won't be there so you may need to go back to your profile page to view the saved changes. To link to a banner you use the URL http://www.sdf.me.uk/wp/img{n}.png replacing {n} with the banner number, this can be found by looking at the the number at the end of the edit URL, or checking out the image's properties in your profile. I'll make it easier when I've get chance. :)
So still to do:
- Include a preview image of the banner in the edit page.
- Show the URL to the banner some where.
- Allow banners to be deleted.
- Uploading of fonts.
- General clean up.
- Create a clean up script to get rid of old profiles, banners, images and fonts no longer used.

Tomorrow (2009-08-17,) if I'm not too dead after work I'm going to try getting the JavaScript together for adding values to banners.
It does depend how tired I am after work though, it's quite demanding. :p
Project Update

OK, time for another update I feel.
The banner creation and edit pages are now there. However, they're not ready for use yet. I'm still writing the part where you can add statistics to the banners and as of yet you actually save anything though blank banners can be created.
So a little more client-side and some more server-side scripting to get the edit/create/delete pages up and running and I think the site we be then more or less usable, I just need to then get the font page sorted and start cleaning it up and it probably needs a spell check running over it too, darn my dyslexia. But it needs cleaning up some code wise too.

Another Project Update

OK, so I was in another mood to code.
I've got banner creation working, sort of, you can create a basic banner but it won't display anything yet, I'm still working on how you can add and place statistics to the banners. Maybe I'll play around with a little AJAX too.
If I can keep going like I am it might be all nearly finished in a week or two, at least to a level where it can be used. However, I can't say that it will be working in two weeks, I have a lot more than this on my plate right now.

Background Uploads Working

Another update on the project, I've just completed the background image upload page. So now images can be uploaded to the site ready for use in the banners. They must be less than 500KB, 500x500px and be PNG format.
Yes you can't actually use the images yet because you can't create banners yourself, but this site is getting a little closer to completion. Next up will be the fonts page, then after that I will be creating the banner creation page, then the banner edit and banner delete pages.

Hey, SDF here.
Just letting anyone know that I've done a little work on the site. Nothing too big so far as I didn't have long to work on it.
However, I've noticed a few peoples signing up, if you've registered and have the background image and also where you want your text, plus colours and maybe a font. Contact and I'll see about setting it up manually, otherwise you'll be waiting around while I create the site.

Hi, just posting a little news about this project now that I've got the news functionality up and running.
I have been quite busy recently with other things. However, I have also noticed that I've been getting quite a few hits from people, the result of which is that I've made this project a higher priority.
I'm not sure when it will be complete but hope to keep you all up to date both here and on my blog.
